Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the incumbent member of parliament for Tafo-Pankrono for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has discussed how he won the recently concluded parliamentary primaries.

After winning, he considered the difficulties he had encountered during the campaign.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem Monday, Adom FM’s morning program, Mr. Assafuah acknowledged the substantial resistance he faced but gave credit to his honesty for his accomplishments.

He believed that the campaign was the hardest in Ashanti history, with opponents using propaganda and lies.

But he claimed that because of the electorate’s recognition of his commitment to their best interests, he was re-elected as the parliamentary candidate.

“My opponent cannot stand me, if she comes thousand times, I will beat her thousand times. I knew the contest was going to be difficult and I was aware of the challenges but I manage to pull through because of my honesty” Mr. Ekow Assafuah said.

Even though his opponent did not congratulate him, Mr. Ekow Assafuah stated that the NPP was more important than individual differences, so he prioritized party unity.

With six ballots being rejected, Mr. Assafuah received 367 votes, more than his nearest opponent, Dr. Serwah Donkor, who received 337 out of 710 cast.

Relatedly, the Ghana Journalists Association is urging the Ghana Police Service to detain and prosecute Farouk Aliu Mahama, the member of parliament for Yendi, and his associates for allegedly beating up a Citi TV/FM reporter during the recently concluded New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the legislator and his allies are said to have attacked Mohammed Aminu M. Alabira, the Northern Regional Correspondent for the media outlet based in Accra.

The MP is accused of kicking and slapping Alabira during a live broadcast on Citi TV and Citi FM regarding the violence that broke out during the ballot counting. This caused Alabira to fall to the ground, whereupon the lawmaker’s supporters attacked him.
