NPP lists projects done by Akufo-Addo in the Ashanti region to refutes rejection claims

In response to former President John Dramani Mahama’s claim that the Ashanti Region has been ignored by the ruling party despite consistently sending large numbers of electoral votes, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region has struck back.

During his campaign in Kumasi to promote his 24-hour economy policy, Mr. Mahama attacked the government for failing to complete projects such as the Kumasi Central Market.

The NPP’s regional secretary, Adom Appiah, strongly contested Mr. Mahama’s claims, highlighting completed infrastructure projects as evidence of the government’s commitment to the Ashanti Region.

He brought up in particular the revitalization of the 44-year-old mother and child block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, which he claimed was declared structurally unstable and had to be rebuilt from the ground up.

“99% of Ashanti residents will agree with me when I say that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s administration has not neglected the region,” Mr Appiah declared.

He added “If you have been to Kumasi, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, for instance, there was a 44-year-old mother and child block for 44 good years, this block stood unattended to. President Akufo-Addo pulled it down and rebuilt it, recognizing its importance to the 27% of Ghanaians who depend on it.”

Manhyia Palace has imposed a ban on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) activities in the Ashanti region following the party’s Ashanti Regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi’s recent derogatory comments about Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In response to Wontumi’s alleged offensive remarks against Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, the council declared that it would not permit the NPP to function until Wontumi honored a summons.

The threat was reportedly made by a traditional Manhyia leader because Wontumi has not yet appeared before the council.

The NPP leadership was earlier asked by the council to make sure Chairman Wontumi responds to the summons within a week.

He allegedly made a statement regarding Manhyia South’s vetting process for parliamentary candidates.
