The general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong has directed party members particularly in Ashanti to desist from commenting further on the alleged unfortunate comment the party’s regional chairman made against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the party’s parliamentary vetting in Kumasi.
Addressing a news conference Justin Kodua Frimpong disclosed, that the party’s top management is on the grounds to resolve the issue.
In reaction to recent alleged derogatory remarks made by the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, against the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Justin Kodua Frimpong is escorting a few party officials to the Manhyia Palace.
The Asante king’s authority was purportedly questioned by Antwi Boasiako, also referred to as Chairman Wontumi, following Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s vetting.
He supposedly informed Brempong Nana Kwaku Duah of Otumfuo that, ”I have built my own kingdom; I have my own police and military; and I will speak my mind to Otumfuo if I disagree on an issue with him.”
Speaking to the media on Monday, January 22, in Kumasi, Mr. Kodua Frimpong stated, “Our history has been shaped and supported by Asanteman and the good people of the Ashanti region and as a party, we hold extreme, absolute, and undiluted respect for Asanteman, and most especially for our king and Nananom and so I will want to caution the rank and file of our party to desist from making any sensitive comments regarding Nananom and his majesty and the party.
“The leadership of the party is on the ground and knows what to do to make sure that the respect for our revered king is maintained and we caution that no one has the right to go on radio to make any sensitive comments and that is the position of the party.”
