Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has been advised to put his presidential aspirations on hold for the time being by Alhassan Suhuniyi, member of parliament for Tamale North in the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He claimed that by running against former President John Dramani Mahama for the position of the NDC’s flagbearer, the former minister of finance is wasting money.

Kojo Bonsu, the former mayor of Kumasi, was also given this advice by Suhuniyi to quit running.

He clarified that the competition between them is unimportant, especially given that Ghana needs better leaders and a better government.

The MP said in an interview with Oyerepa TV that although the two other candidates have made significant contributions to the growth of the NDC, the flagbearer position is not appropriate for them.

“They should stop it. They should let us focus on rescuing this country with John Mahama. They are people who have worked tirelessly and so hard for this country, especially Dr. Kwabena Duffuor; no one can write away the contribution he has made to the development of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Bonsu did a fantastic job when he was Mayor of Kumasi.

“He has been one of our branding gurus when it comes to party marketing and all of that, but this is not for them. They should just stop it, with all due respect, they should stop it and let’s focus on what is meaningful and what is feasible,” he stated.

The NDC declared that nominations would be accepted beginning on February 22, 2023, for both the presidential and parliamentary primaries.

Meanwhile, the news that former president John Dramani Mahama plans to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming general elections has prompted a response from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NPP’s communications director, Richard Ahiagbah, says the good news is that they have beaten Mr. Mahama twice.

After the nomination form had been picked up on Mr. Mahama’s behalf, Mr. Ahiagbah made the following statement to journalists in Accra: “The NPP will win the 2024 election.”

When asked if the NPP was concerned about Mr. Mahama’s decision to run for office in 2024, Mr. Ahiagbah responded that the NPP had already defeated Mr. Mahama twice, so it wouldn’t be difficult or unexpected to defeat him this time.
