President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has acknowledged that he ignored Ekumfi’s development issues because the people did not support Francis Kingsley Ato Cudjoe, the candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the 2020 election.
The President claims that in order to direct certain development projects toward the Ekumfi constituency, he appointed Mr. Ato Cudjoe as a substantive and deputy minister during his first term as a member of parliament.
But after Mr. Ato Cudjoe lost the 2020 election, the President disregarded the demands of the people.
The Kyedomhemaa of the Ekumfi traditional area, Nana Enyimfua III, demanded that the state establish a project in the area to assist the youth in earning a living, and the President complied.
“I made Ato Cudjoe (an indigene of Ekumfi) a minister and a deputy minister so he could do something there for you. But unfortunately he lost his seat in the next election and it’s all part of the reasons I also ignored you for a while, I must be honest with the truth. But I’ve heard you and the year has just started so by the time the year ends, I’ll see what I can do,” President Akufo-Addo assured.
There’s something wrong with President Akufo-Addo’s public statements lately
I defended him for the Mepe gaffe but this one about Ekumfi shows that actually is his thinking
He’s admitting he’s failed to develop Ekumfi because they voted out the NPP MP in 2020

During her visit to the Presidency to thank President Akufo-Addo for renovating the late President Mills’ burial grounds, the queen mother said the state had not yet kept any of the promises it had made to the late Prof. Mills’ family and the community following their kinsman’s death.
In order for the next generation to be able to rely on the benefits of the service their son provided to the state, she begged the President to keep at least one of the promises made to the traditional area.
In spite of his admission that he diverted his focus from Ekumfi because the family had voted out the NPP MP, President Akufo-Addo gave the family the assurance that he would keep his word.
