A week-long celebration in memory of the deceased Ghanaian international, Christian Atsu, is scheduled for Saturday, March 4.

This decision was the result of discussions between Atsu’s family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the sports ministry at the player’s family home.

Evans Bobie, Deputy Minister of Sports, led representatives of the GFA and the Ministry of Sport to offer condolences to the bereaved family.

Christian Atsu was confirmed dead on Saturday, February 18, after 12 days under the rubble following a devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria that killed more than 47,000 people.

The body of the former Chelsea and Newcastle winger was flown to Ghana from Turkey on Sunday.

Yesterday, we reported that Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari were among the footballers who visited the family of the late Christian Atsu to express their sympathy.

Also present were former Black Stars players Baffour Gyan, Emmanuel Agyamang-Badu and Haminu Dramani.

Words of gratitude poured in from far and near, with many expressing their condolences to the footballer’s family and loved ones.

On Monday, Abedi Ayew Pele and her family visited the bereaved and even gave them some items.

Many former players also went to the home of their late colleague’s family on Tuesday to offer their condolences.
