According to the data, 7,618 registered abortions were recorded among adolescent girls by 2022, which equates to about 21 abortions per day of the year.
GHS said last year’s figure was down 10% from 2021’s 8,465.
In total, the years 2020, 2021 and 2022 see a total of 24,108 teen abortions, with a three-year average of 8,036 teen abortions, which equates to 22 abortions. pregnancy every day and about one abortion every hour of the day.
The Ashanti region, which seems to have become famous for its high number of abortions, again recorded the highest number of teenage abortions in 2022 with a total of 1,275.
The region will record 1,407 and 1,531 teen abortions in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
It was followed by the East region which recorded 1,106 abortions, while the Ahafo region recorded the lowest number of teenage abortions with a total of 171 abortions by 2022, according to the data.
