The appointed minister in charge of religious affairs and leader, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, more commonly known as Asabee, issued a warning to the LGBTQ community.
He said that he opposes same-sex marriage in the country.
He informed this to the Nominating Committee on Monday, 20 February 2023, during his audit and said “I oppose the legalization of homosexuality in Ghana”.
Ghana’s LGBTQ+ community continues to face pervasive discrimination, with perpetrators justifying their actions by invoking colonial-era laws that forbid unnatural carnal relationships.
Activists have warned that the bill could also promote conversion therapy for Ghana’s besieged LGBT+ community.

Some MPs want to criminalize the promotion of LGBTQ+ rights, a move that came after a community center for sexual minorities was closed following strong opposition from politicians and organizations religious office.
Ningo-Prampram lawmaker Sam George said he and seven other MPs hope their bill to ban LGBTQ+ advocacy for private members will pass.
The Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill seeks to criminalize gay activities in Ghana and even seeks to criminalize any form of advocacy for gay men.
The bill also threatens the very existence of LGBTQI people, meaning they are permanently exposed to state-sanctioned physical and psychological abuse.
It also forces Ghanaians to control gender and sexuality in their homes, workplaces and daily lives.
