Delegates from the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRSU) in Bonn, Germany, were recently hosted by the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on a historic occasion that symbolizes the strengthening of international academic partnerships. The goal of the September 20, 2023, visit was to investigate potential paths toward mutually beneficial cooperation between the two prestigious organizations.

The Department of Communication Studies at UCC and the visiting group from H-BRSU, led by Professors Drs. Sonja Christ-Brendemühl and Hektor Haarköter, had fruitful conversations. Potential areas of cooperation were discussed, such as curriculum development, joint research projects, staff and student exchange programs, and internship opportunities.

Several influential members of UCC’s Department of Communication Studies attended the meeting. Prof. Philip Arthur Gborsong, Prof. Richard Torgbor Torto, Drs. Jacob Nyarko, Edem Adzovie, Wincharles Coker, Mr. Theophilus Atram Nartey, Miss Angela Amoah, and Mr. Opoku Oku Afari were among the distinguished colleagues in attendance, including Prof. William Kodom Gyasi, Head of the Department.

A highlight of the day was a visit to UCC’s Campus Broadcasting Station (CBS), where Mr. Ibrahim Adam gave the delegates an insightful tour of the facility and spoke with them about its role in developing the next generation of media professionals. Mr. Dominic Kofi Konadu, Head of Programs, gave the delegates a warm welcome. The visit came to an end with a quick on-air appearance hosted by Mr. Asante Fokuo, Head of Sports.

Both parties expressed excitement about the possibility of a future relationship as the day came to an end. If successful, this partnership might have a positive impact on both institutions by encouraging the sharing of knowledge and insights, advancing global understanding, and enhancing the educational opportunities for both faculty and students.
