The idea of creating a new competition by some powerhouse European clubs is gradually turning into a heavy shambles as top teams reject joining the European super league.
Earlier on, the European Court of Justice verdict gave hope to the revival of the European Super League following the court ruling which prevented the two major football governing bodies, FIFA and UEFA from banning clubs who wished to join the super league.
With its decision on the proposed Super League, the European Court of Justice has dealt a blow to FIFA and UEFA. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that it is illegal to prevent the competition from forming, which could lead to its revival.
The ruling, though, will be viewed as a setback to FIFA’s and Uefa’s authority and ability to control the game.
According to the report, when new contests are “potentially entering the market” Fifa and Uefa must ensure their powers are “transparent, objective, non-discriminatory and proportionate”.
After, some top European clubs have released a press statement rejecting the super league and pledging their unwavering support and commitment to remaining under UEFA and fully participating in the UEFA organized club competitions, thus UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League and UEFA Super Cup.
The likes Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Sevilla, Borrusia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid and the Premier League have spoken against the formation of the super league.
However, the European super league main originators, Real Madrid and Barcelona are more determined to breakaway from UEFA and form their own competition and have total control over their destinies.
Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, proclaimed today a “great day for the history of football,” after the court verdict.
The ESL and its supporters, A22 Sports, prevailed in their legal battle against FIFA and UEFA on Thursday morning. It was determined that the organizations had broken the law by trying to prevent clubs from entering the breakaway competition.
