Self-acclaimed King of African Dancehall, Shatta Wale has reacted to Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, the daughter of President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Agency following her warning to DJs, and nightclub owners not to play any foreign music in Ghana.

Recall, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo appealed to the nation’s DJs, nightclub operators, and media outlets to feature more local music in their sets.

The goal of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s daughter, Play Ghana, is to increase the exposure of Ghanaian musicians by making sure that their songs are played more frequently in the media and at different nightclubs.

According to her, her organization is drafting changes to the local content law that will make it easier to implement the Play Ghana Songs program.

According to Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, the initiative is a long-term commitment to promoting Ghanaian music rather than just a seasonal effort for Christmas.

“The Play Ghana initiative is not just for Christmas. It has coincided with the Christmas season, which is undoubtedly the biggest season for our creators. We are advocating for the continuous promotion of Ghanaian songs. It is not a one-time gimmick but a sustained effort. We are committed to playing Ghanaian music forever,” she said at the Ministry of Information’s press conference for the minister.

DJs, radio hosts, nightclub operators, and promoters were all urged by Gyankroma Akufo-Addo to give playing Ghanaian music top priority.

Following this, controversial musician, Shatta Wale too his X (formerly Twitter) page to share his view on President Nana Addo‘s daughter directive to DJs and radio presenters.

In his own words, Shatta tweeted, “How can you say you deh ban foreign music. Eeiiiiiii …….. We know how to Ban papa. Small time dem go ban Foos for kantamanto.”

Ghanaian musicians have long lamented the lack of encouragement and publicity for their music, which they feel is impeding their success.

The Play Ghana project seeks to allay these worries and give local music a stronger platform in the entertainment sector.
