Ama Busia, a former member of the Council of Elders and First Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has passed away.

After a brief illness, she is said to have passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

As per a report published on Asaaseradio.com, Ama Busia’s son, Dr. Obeng Busia, verified her demise at the Nyaho Medical Center on Tuesday morning.

Ama Busia, who was 87 years old when she passed away, was still a powerful and well-liked member of the NPP right up until the very end.

Ama Busia, well-known for her political criticism and activism against the Acheampong government, encountered hardship and was arrested seven times. She was detained for ninety days after her seventh arrest.

Even though Ama Busia had hardships, her life’s course was altered by education after she lost her mother at the age of 13 and her father at the age of 6.

Her contribution to the formation of the Northern People’s Party was substantial, as it later united with Danquah and Busia to become the present-day New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Resilient politician Ama Busia served in a number of NPP leadership roles. Following the NPP’s victory in the 2000 elections under John Agyekum Kufuor, she was a member of the Council of State.

Ama has held the NPP’s first and third national vice chairmanships in the past.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the first lady of Ghana, has stated that she sees the country electing its first female president in the future.

During the 5th session of the 15th Congregation at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, she gave a powerful speech in which she expressed her belief that an achievement of this magnitude would serve as a powerful source of inspiration for girls throughout the country.

The First Lady exhorted young women to aim for personal development and to set high standards for their careers.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo highlighted the important roles that women play in the executive and judicial branches, emphasizing her desire to live to see the day when Ghana can proudly name a female president.
