Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the first lady of Ghana, has stated that she sees the country electing its first female president in the future.

During the 5th session of the 15th Congregation at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, she gave a powerful speech in which she expressed her belief that an achievement of this magnitude would serve as a powerful source of inspiration for girls throughout the country.

The First Lady exhorted young women to aim for personal development and to set high standards for their careers.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo highlighted the important roles that women play in the executive and judicial branches, emphasizing her desire to live to see the day when Ghana can proudly name a female president.

“I dream that one day there will be a woman president in Ghana, and Madam President will be said as easy as Mr. President,” she stated.

A unique touch to the occasion was when the First Lady received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (HonD.HL) degree from the University of Professional Studies. The event honored trailblazing women who have had a lasting impact on Ghanaian history as well.

Honors were bestowed upon former Chief Justice of the Republic Justice Georgina Theodora Wood and former Speaker of Parliament, Justice Adeline Bamford-Addo, the first woman to occupy the office, for their outstanding contributions to Ghana’s advancement.

The nation’s dedication to empowering women and honoring the accomplishments of its female leaders is demonstrated by the collective recognition of these exceptional women.
