In a surprising twist of events, celebrated Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has brought to light a tweet from 2012 by President Nana Akufo-Addo, where he pledged to combat corruption using the “Anas Principle” if elected into power.

The tweet, dated October 30, 2012, on the now-rebranded Twitter (X), quoted the president expressing his commitment to addressing corruption in the tax system through the application of the “Anas Principle”: “I will deal with the corruption in our tax system with the Anas principle and prosecute the culprits.”

Anas Aremeyaw Anas, known for his groundbreaking undercover investigations, took to his Twitter handle on December 9, 2023, to shed light on the president’s past commitment.

Using an emoji, Anas emphasized the significance of the tweet, prompting a reexamination of the administration’s stance on corruption.

The “Anas Principle” refers to a methodological approach involving “entrapment” and “sting operations” to expose and apprehend corrupt individuals within government circles.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas has gained international acclaim for his fearless pursuit of justice through these covert investigative techniques.

Critics, including individuals from the opposing National Democratic Congress (NDC), have accused the president of not doing enough to address the prevalent issue of corruption and, in some instances, allegedly supporting corrupt practices.

This resurfaced tweet puts the president and his administration under scrutiny, prompting the public to assess whether the promised “Anas Principle” has been effectively employed to combat corruption in the country.

As Ghana continues its battle against corruption, citizens eagerly await concrete actions that align with the president’s decade-old commitment to utilizing the famed investigative approach.
