Today, December 2, 2023, is the scheduled date of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies.
Delegates from the New Patriotic Party have descended upon different polling places to participate in the party’s ongoing parliamentary primary in its orphan constituencies.
Voting at the various polling places started at 7 a.m.
The election is a component of the party’s planning for the general elections in 2024.
The purpose of this internal election is to choose parliamentary candidates for the 111 constituencies in which the party does not currently have any sitting members of parliament. The party has made a point of assuring that all potential candidates for parliament will face an equal and fair contest, with no candidate imposition.
The party published guidelines earlier this week for the forthcoming parliamentary primaries in constituencies where there are currently no NPP MPs.
In constituencies where MPs are currently serving, parliamentary candidates will likely be chosen in January 2024.
