Yesterday, December 1, 2023, marked the 39th National Farmers’ Day celebration, which takes place at the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa, Western Region.

This year’s Farmer’s Day was themed “Delivering smart solutions for sustainable food security and resilience,” aims to highlight the significance of sustainable agricultural practices, honor the contributions of farmers, and discuss issues that the agriculture industry faces.

An Agricultural Fair and a Grand Durbar were held during the five-day celebration, giving farmers a chance to network and discover new innovations and technologies.

The program will end with a dinner that the award recipients and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will grace as special guests.

Honors such as Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, and National Best Cocoa Farmer, among others, will be given to deserving farmers and fishermen in a number of categories.

Meanwhile, earlier yesterday, former president, John Dramani Mahama celebrated all farmers across the country as they mark 39th National Farmer’s Day.

In a captivating message to commemorate the Farmer’s Day, Mr. Mahama disclosed that the NDC is dedicated to bringing joy to farmers once more.

According to him, the NDC aim to achieve food self-sufficiency through a policy that supports large-scale commercial agricultural production.

The former president added that, “We will introduce agro-processing units in all regions to add value to our agricultural products and create more opportunities for all farmers.“

Mr. Mahama wrote on his X page (formerly Twitter), “The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is dedicated to bringing back the joy of farming and revolutionising the agricultural sector. We aim to achieve food self-sufficiency through a policy that supports large-scale commercial agricultural production. This will be propelled by a robust cooperative system that will benefit from Farmers Service Centres established nationwide to drive access to agricultural credit and inputs.

We will introduce agro-processing units in all regions to add value to our agricultural products and create more opportunities for all farmers. Establishing agricultural processing plants will target crops such as palm, cashew, groundnuts, cotton, coffee, cocoa, soya, cassava, shea nuts, cereals, ginger, spices, cut flowers, fruits and horticultural products.“
