Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Member of Parliament representing Builsa South, has questioned the Upper East Regional Minister’s grasp of a 24-hour economy.
At a function in his region, Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu expressed concern that people would not have time to sleep with their wives at night if a 24-hour economy was implemented, as suggested by opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama.
For example, Mr. Yakubu stated that farmers would find it practically difficult to “sleep with their wives” if they worked through the night, something he strongly opposed.
A 24-hour economy is one of the strategies former President John Mahama, who is running for reelection, has put forth to reshape the Ghanaian economy if elected in December 2024.
Vice President Dr. Bawumia described the 24-hour economy proposal as something that was already in implementation because many sectors operate for 24 hours. Many people have responded differently to the proposal since it was announced.
Speaking on Saturday, Nov. 25, at the 2023 Sekoti Tenglebgre festival of the Chiefs and people of Sekoti in the Nabdam District, the Upper East Regional Minister also shared his opinions regarding former President Mahama’s proposed 24-hour economy.
In a social media post, the MP for Builsa North expressed dissatisfaction with Mr. Yakubu’s stance and comprehension of the 24-hour economy, asking, “What has a 24-hour economy got to do with farming at night and sleeping or not sleeping with wives at night?
Mr. Yakubu’s reasoning was questioned by Dr. Apaak, who countered that “couples manage to do the needful even in war zones,” meaning that no one’s marital responsibilities would be impacted by the proposed 24-hour economy.
After putting Ghanaians through unimaginable suffering, Dr. Apaak claimed that Dr. Bawumia and the NPP had nothing to offer the country and questioned whether any Ghanaians would still vote for the party.
What has a 24-hour economy got to do with farming at night and sleeping or not sleeping with wives at night? Don't men in 24-hour economies sleep with their wives? Even in war zones, couples manage to do the needful.
