A 23-year-old man brutally raped an 80-year-old shea butter vendor at knifepoint, dragging her into a bush. The victim was admitted to the Ajumako District Government Hospital.

At Etsii Sonkwa in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region, the elderly woman was sexually assaulted by an individual thought to be a well-known criminal.

When she was attacked, the victim was on her way to Ofabil, a nearby community, from Etsii Sonkwa. She was going to collect money from people who had bought some of her shea butter and owed her.

The victim met the suspect, Kobina Nyame, who is reportedly a well-known felon and marijuana user, while traveling to her creditors. He stopped her, pulled out a knife, and threatened to kill the helpless old woman if she refused to have sex with him. After dragging her into a close-by bush, he forced them to have sex.

Kobina Nyame warned her to keep her ordeal a secret or risk being killed every time he saw her, after sating his strange sexual thirst.

As the woman was having trouble finding her way home, she came across a man riding a motorcycle and he helped her. She told the motorcycle rider about her ordeal despite the rapist’s warning, and he told the local assembly member.

The town’s incensed youth reported the incident to the Chiefs and elders of Etsii Sonkwa, who then apprehended the offender and brought him to the Chief’s palace.

After admitting to the crime, Kobina Nyame was turned over to the Ajumako District Police Command, where he is currently being held and assisting with the investigation.
