The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun has demanded a retraction and an apology from the Member of Parliament for the Ningo Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George for describing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a “religious prostitute’’ hopping from church to Mosque.
Recall, Sam George claimed that newly elected NPP flagbearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is an improper Muslim.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia has been jumping from one church to the other all because he was to identify himself with the Christian fraternity in order to win the Christians to vote for him ahead of 2024 presidential elections.
Sam George added that Dr. Bawumia is a Christian by day and Muslim by night, adding that the nobody can vouch for the character of the Vice President.
Sam Gorge has been criticized heavily by some politicians and the general public for his remarks on the Vice President.
In a latest development, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam in an interview with GHOne TV, warned if Sam George fails to retract and apology to Dr. Bawumia then they will force Muslims not to accept any Christian into their mosques.
According to Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, the Vice President has not faulted in any way by going to churches. He added that Dr. Bawumia is a leader and he is trying to promote religious tolerance between the two religions.
Ashanti Regional Chief Imam asserted that the Islamic religion allows a Muslim to inter-marriage with other religion which includes a Christian.
He vehemently debunked claims by Sam George that Dr. Bawumia is not a true Muslim. According to him, the Vice President is a true Muslim who reads the Quran both in Arabic and English and upholds the values and beliefs of his religion.
Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun added that former president John Mahama was recently invited by the Muslims community to attend one their meetings at the Kumasi Central Mosque, and he graced the occasion.
