Emory Williams was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 12, 1999. He attended Northside High School, where he was a two-sport star in baseball and football. In baseball, he was named the Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior after batting .450 with 10 home runs and 35 stolen bases. He also competed in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash in track.
Williams was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in 2019 and had an immediate impact. He hit .292 with 23 home runs and 49 stolen bases in his rookie season, and he was named the National League Rookie of the Year.
Williams also continued to improve in his second season, hitting .305 with 30 home runs and 56 stolen bases. He was named to his first All-Star team and also helped the Braves win the World Series.
