One of the fine names that keep coming up in political circles when talks shift to the choice of a running mate for Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia’s 2024 candidature is the 45-year old Member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, Dr. John Ampontua Kumah; a Lawyer and Entrepreneur who currently serves as a Deputy Minister of Finance.

The Ejisu, MP, has himself not been heard mentioning his own name, touting himself or projecting himself anywhere yet his enviable records in leadership for the past 17 years and counting continues to pop up for play in recent times.

Some have argued that a young dynamic leader with an impressive political testimonial devoid of scandals and at same time hailing from the Ashanti Region with a reputable Christian background as a preacher by divine calling puts Dr. Kumah Esq. in a favourable position to partner Dr. Bawumia.

Even before the talks of running mates became a topical issue, Dr. Kumah Esq. has distinguished himself as an attractive political commodity right from his days as the first Chief Executive Officer for the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), where he successfully positioned the NEIP as the enabler of the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Ghana.

Under his leadership, the programme trained 7,000 startups in 2018 under the Presidential Business Support Programme and supported 1,350 beneficiaries with funds

During his tenure as CEO of the NEIP, Dr. Kumah played a crucial role in training startups and businesses, leading to the creation of numerous jobs for youth across Ghana.

He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, a member of the Appointments Committee, and a Member of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee.

Dr. Kumah is also the Deputy Minister in charge of wealth creation and budget implementation support at the Ministry of Finance. He is at the forefront of the government’s efforts to create jobs and wealth for Ghanaians through strategic project implementation.

Dr. Kumah’s outstanding contributions to Ghana have been widely recognized; he was named the most efficient and prominent government appointee in 2018 and one of President Akufo-Addo’s 20 most humble and respectful appointees in 2019. His vast knowledge and expertise continue to make him a valuable asset to the Ghanaian government and the country at large.

Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah is a lawyer, entrepreneur, and politician with an impressive educational background. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics with Philosophy and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the prestigious University of Ghana, Legon, and has a Professional Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law in 2013 when he was admitted to the Ghana Bar.

Dr. Kumah also holds an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Finance) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in applied business research from the Nobel International Business School.

In November 2020, he earned a doctorate in business innovation from the Swiss Business School in Switzerland, further solidifying his expertise in the fields of business and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Kumah has a rich professional background, having served as the founding Managing Director of Majak Associates Ltd., a building and construction firm. After becoming a lawyer, he established Aduaprokye Chambers and served as its Managing Partner until his appointment as CEO of the (NEIP) in 2017.

As an Entrepreneur by birth, a Lawyer by Profession, a Politician by Choice, a Preacher by Divine Calling, he sees none of these as an accident, but a call to serve humanity.

He is a family man with six children, and married to Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah.
