Kelly Oubre Jr. was born on December 9, 1995, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in the Magnolia public housing project and had to overcome a lot of adversity to get to where he is today.
Oubre’s father, Kelly Oubre Sr., was a former college basketball player at the University of New Orleans. Oubre Sr. instilled a love of basketball in his son at a young age. Oubre Sr. also taught his son the importance of hard work and dedication.
Oubre also began playing basketball at a young age and quickly showed his talent. He played for a number of different teams in the New Orleans area, including the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORC) and the Riverside Rebels.
Oubre attended Edward Hynes Elementary School (now known as Hynes Charter School) and played for three Milne Boys Home (now known as NORC) basketball teams during that time.
Oubre’s family moved to Richmond, Texas, after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Oubre attended George Bush High School in Fort Bend, Texas, before transferring to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, for his senior season.
