    • 2004: Lewis receives the Congressional Gold Medal.
    • 2011: Lewis also receives the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
    • 2012: Lewis’s wife Lillian dies of cancer.
    • 2020: Lewis dies of pancreatic cancer.
