Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, gaining the right to face NDC flagbearer and former President John Dramani Mahama in the general election of 2024.

Dr. Bawumia defeated three other candidates, including Kennedy Agyapong, the vocal member of parliament for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of agriculture, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former member of parliament for Mampong.

Dr. Bawumia received 118,210 votes, or 61.47% of the total, according to certified results released by Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission Siriboe Quaicoe. Mr. Agyapong, his closest rival, received 71,996 votes, or 37.41% of the total. With 1,459 votes, or 0.76% of the total, Dr. Afriyie Akoto finished third, while Addai-Nimoh only received 731 votes, or 0.41%.

Ninety-six percent of the 192,446 delegates cast ballots in the presidential primary, of which 193,346 were deemed valid and 900 were rejected.

With both Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Mahama leading their respective parties into the campaign in the hopes of winning, the 2024 election is predicted to be a hotly contested contest.

Earlier on, InsightNewsgh.com reported that Dr. Bawumia and his team initiated their victory celebration, following provisional results that indicate his victory in the NPP presidential race.

On Saturday, November 4, 2023, New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates nationwide cast their ballots to select the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

A fierce race to choose the best candidate to take the party to victory in the general elections of 2024.

Relatedly, MP for Ablekuma West, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has killed New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s dreams of leading the ruling party in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

After casting her vote, the Minister for Communications and Digitization, Mad. Ursula Owusu speaking to the media, stated that she strongly believes the delegates in her constituents are behind the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his vision for the party.
