Kennedy Agyapong, a potential flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that he will resign from his role as chairman of Ghana Gas’s board in the event that he is not elected to lead the NPP in the November 4, 2023, primaries.
On November 1, 2023, Agyapong stated in an interview with Oyerepa TV that he wanted to clear up any misunderstandings regarding his position and pay as the head of the Ghana Gas board. He noted that numerous claims of financial benefits connected to his position have been made, which he has strongly refuted.
Agyapong explained that he gets paid GH¢2,600 for each board meeting that he attends, but that these meetings happen irregularly—sometimes months will pass between them.
“Sometimes three months we haven’t even gone for a meeting. Funny enough, I didn’t even know how much I take, so when those conversations started, I went to ask the secretary, and I was told I take GH¢2,600,” he said.
Agyapong also revealed that he had spoken with a few board members about resigning, one of them being the Minister of Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also referred to as NAPO.
He asserts, however, that because of his valuable contributions to the group, some members have been reluctant to let him step down from his position.
“I have told the board members, several times that I just want to resign. Even last week I was discussing it with NAPO, the minister, that I wanted to resign and go, but the board was even begging me not to leave. NAPO was advising me that I shouldn’t leave.
“Go and sample opinions from the workers from Ghana Gas, changes that I have brought, investments that they have made. I have that leadership quality you can’t take it from me,” he added.
He continued “If lose, I will stop, whoever will talk I won’t listen, I will leave, they have created the impression that there is money they to be looted.”
Could you believe I earn 2600gh at Ghana Gas but Npp is creating an impression like I earn a lot from Ghana Gas..

Kennedy is one of three candidates—Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh—running for the role of flagbearer.
The NPP has set November 4, 2023, as the date for choosing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo‘s successor as the party’s head.
