The Office of the Special Prosecutor has cleared Charles Adu Boahen, a former state minister in the finance ministry, of all corruption-related charges (OSP).

“Adu Boahen’s actions are closely linked to corruption as they involve influence peddling or trading in influence, but there is no legal prohibition on them that the OSP is mandated to address further,” the OSP stated in a report.

On that reckoning, the Special Prosecutor directs the closure, at this time, of the investigation in respect of allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences involving Charles Adu Boahen contained in the investigative documentary titled Galamsey Economy published by Tiger Eye P.I. The investigation may be re-opened should the circumstances and further facts so dictate.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) conducted an investigation into the charges leveled against Charles Adu Boahen in the Galamsey Economy exposé at some point last year.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor has promptly commenced investigations into the action of Charles Adu Boahen and any other implicated person contained in the investigative exposé Galamsey Economy,” said a statement released by the OSP on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.

President Nana Akufo-Addo removed Adu Boahen from office on Monday, November 14, 2022, in response to allegations made in a documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the minister in the exposé Galamsey Economy, the president spoke to Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations,” a statement from the Presidency said.

Meanwhile, significant fumigation and disinfection efforts have been initiated by the Volta River Authority (VRA) in the communities affected by the Akosombo Dam’s controlled spill.

There has been a noticeable drop in floodwater levels as a result of the spill rate reduction.

Since Mepe has the highest concentration of affected residents, the disinfection initiative started there. Mepe is located in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
