The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated Multimedia Group’s Erastus Asare Donkor for winning Journalist of the Year at the just-ended 27th Ghana Journalist Awards (GJA).

At the 27th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, Erastus Asare Donkor of the Multimedia Group was named P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year.

The Multimedia Group’s JoyFM, JoyNews, and Luv FM are all home to journalist Mr. Donkor. He was crowned at the event on Sunday at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, gave him the award.

Eratus Donkor was also awarded the Best Reporter on Illegal Mining title that evening. His outstanding reports and documentaries on galamsey and its effects on the nation’s natural and human resources earned him the award.

Following his success, the NDC has released a statement to celebrate with Eratus Donkor who is currently trending on X (formerly Twitter) as scores of Ghanaians join to congratulate him.

The NDC outlined some qualities of reigning 2022 Journalist of Year, “There is no gainsaying the fact that this award is well deserved and a testament to his relentless devotion to fight illegal mining  and its debilitating impact on our environment,” part of the statement read.

The statement continued, “Journalist like Eratus Asare Donkor are standard-bearer of what true patriotism is. At the very peril of his life and sometimes in the face of intimidation from the powers that be, Eratus Asare Donkor took his lenses into various forest reserves and hard-to-reach places to expose the underbelly of the galamsey menace that has assumed alarming proportions under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.”

The NDC believes this award will encourage and motivate other journalists to sustain the fight protect and preserve our environment, from wanton destruction by a few greedy persons.
