Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s qualities have been praised by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He claimed that because of his honesty, he chose the former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana to be his running mate.
Dr. Bawumia was chosen, according to Akufo-Addo, because of his exceptional qualities of honesty, goal orientation, and unwavering commitment to accomplishing group objectives.
Additionally, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for Ghana’s leadership to maintain regional harmony and balance, stressin, “In terms of the balance, people from the south, people from the north…I think that for the unity of the country, it is good that we have a leadership where Northerners and Southerners are together so that the country can remain united.”
The President said these things on October 26 during a recent visit by students and faculty from the Association International School to Jubilee House, Ghana’s presidential residence.
In addition, President Akufo-Addo expressed his admiration for people who communicate openly and complimented Dr. Bawumia on his honesty and straightforward manner.
He stated, “He [Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia] is an honest person. He speaks honestly to you. He is not one of those people who you have to guess what they are trying to say, he says what he has to say directly.”
Given that Dr. Bawumia was not a well-known figure in Ghanaian politics at the time, President Akufo-Addo’schoiceof her as his running mate initially sparked debate and concerns within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and among political observers.
Relatedly, the Ghana Police Service has been given complete command over security during the NPP’s November 4 presidential primary.
Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, the Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Election Committee, claims that anyone attempting to taint the elections will be dealt with by the police.
During a stakeholder meeting in Accra with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Prof. Ocquaye stated that they anticipate peaceful elections.
