Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that women will be essential to the party’s success in building the commercial business empire.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto stated that investing in women continues to be one of his top priorities because they are the engine of any thriving economy.

The Ghanaian population and housing census for 2021 indicates that there are 400,000 more women than men.

There are 15.6 million females and 15.2 million males among the 30.8 million people in the population.

Currently, women make up 50.7% of the population overall, with men making up 49.3%.

Speaking with a variety of media representatives at his Accra campaign headquarters, Dr. Afriyie Akoto stated that the women’s wing organizes women at the grassroots level and solicits their support for the NPP.

They engage in a variety of social, political, and economic activities. He mentioned that the women’s wing provides a platform that influences gender policies and advances women’s rights as well as a means of recruitment and political participation.

The candidate stated that he wants to empower women to further the welfare and interests of women, taking into account the important roles that women play in the NPP.

Dr. Akoto promised that under his direction, the underfunding of the women’s wing and the predominance of men in the party’s affairs would be given careful consideration.

According to Dr. Afriyie Akoto, the country’s over three million smallholder farmers—the bulk of whom are women—will benefit economically from incentives such as fertilizer and farming equipment, as well as from enhancing their skills with technological know-how.

The former two-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region claims that in order to support those involved in the value chain, he will fortify the Microfinance and Small Loans Center (MASLOC) and other organizations.

“In the value chain, women are a vital human resource. Some of them serve as middlewomen, and they make a lot of money.

“I will empower them to expand. When women are empowered, the exponential effect is huge, and I am committed to doing it,” he stressed.
