The five soldiers who attacked Nicholas Morkah, the host of Akyemansa FM’s morning show, have been the subject of a petition to the Military High Command by the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA).
On Monday, October 23, 2023, the GJA requested an investigation into the assault case in a three-point petition signed by its president, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, and addressed to the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS).
In addition, they demanded payment to Mr. Morkah for any material losses and physical injuries he sustained as a result of the attack, as well as the appropriate sanction(s) to be imposed against the soldiers should they be found to be at fault.
On October 19, 2023, the attack took place during a combined military-customs operation to seize cars that had been brought into the nation without the required paperwork.

Based on the information that is currently accessible, Nicholas saw young soldiers with heavy weapons attack a man.
Although he was recording the incident on his phone, the soldiers rushed at him and repeatedly struck him.
After that, they brought him to the barracks, erased everything from his cell phone—including important letters—and gave him over to the police.
In response, the GJA denounced the journalist’s attack, pointing out that “it was absolutely unwarranted.”
In the meantime, Nicholas Morkah and the GJA have received sympathy from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for the “unfortunate incident”.
“We can assure you of our readiness to thoroughly and speedily investigate the alleged assault and anyone found culpable will be sanctioned as appropriate.
“Once again, accept our assurance of ensuring a better and improved relations between the media and the military in the interest of our dear country,” In a letter dated October 24, 2023, and bearing the signature of Air Vice Marshall MK Appiah-Agyekum, Deputy Chief of Staff (Admin), GJA cited the GAF.
