Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Constituency, Hon. Alfred Obeng-Boateng has responded to his “I’ve saved dollars, I’ll pay double of what competitors will offer delegates” comment.
The Member of Parliament for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Constituency had earlier stated that he was willing to pay NPP delegates to secure the party’s parliamentary ticket for the general elections of 2024.
Hon. Alfred Obeng-Boateng said in a popular video shared by Sompa FM that he paid up to GHC3,000 per delegate during the previous primaries and that he is prepared to compete with any of his rivals in terms of payment to delegates.
Speaking in an interview on UTV News, Obeng-Boateng emphasized that he doesn’t have to declare his asset to the nation before running for a political office. According to the Bibiani MP, he made his money before becoming MP.
He mentioned some of the properties he acquired before becoming a politician included a Bentley car he bought in 2011 after completing his first degree program in abroad at the age of 21.
Mr. Obeng-Boateng who refused to reveal the sources of his wealth said his comments earlier on were meant to scare his competitors who think they can defeat him with money.
He claimed he has never paid delegates to vote for him, however, he admitted that he paid his polling agents after he won the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries.
The Bibiani MP defended his comments by stating that these polling agents work so tirelessly so they appreciate their efforts by giving some money and there is nothing wrong with that.
