A pregnant woman gave birth while trapped under rubble in the Afrin district, Aleppo province of Syria, after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit some parts of Turkey on Thursday.
In a report filed by MailOnline, the mother, who was an evacuee from the Deir Ezzor region in eastern Syria, gave birth during the earthquake.
She died before rescuers could save her, the newspaper said. But, the baby miraculously survived.
According to a cousin who spoke to Agence France-Presse, the child was the sole survivor of his immediate family. The baby is receiving medical treatment in Afrin, the news agency said.
AFP reported that the baby was still attached to the mother’s umbilical cord when it was helped.
