Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP’s director of communications, claims that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made the remark “you don’t vote for me” when he visited Mepe, one of the areas in the Volta Region hit by the flood caused by the spillage of the dam, in response to the tribal politics of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Mr. Ahiagbah, the President’s remarks weren’t in error.
“President Akufo-Addo’s remark at Mepe was meant to decry the usual NDC politicization of issues occurring in the Volta Region, to further their false campaign that the NPP and its governments do not care about the good people of the Volta Region.
The President simply said that he was not there because the people voted or did not vote for him, but because he is the President for all Ghanaians including the good people of Mepe.
President Akufo-Addo’s remark is not the problem. He was responding and drawing attention to the divisive NDC’s tribal politics to do with the pain and suffering of the flood victims…It is needless to weaponize the pain of the people for political advantage, but the NDC cannot help itself because that’s all they have got to sell. Sad!”

On Monday, October 16, while speaking with residents of Mepe who had been impacted by the flood brought on by the dam spill, President Akufo-Addo said that he serves as president for all Ghanaians, regardless of whether they voted for him or not.
Following this, President Nana Akufo-Addo has received harsh criticism from Ghanaians for his remarks regarding the spill at the Akosombo Dam.
Obviously, majority of Ghanaians didn’t like this. They charged him with being a president who was tribalistic and unconcerned with the welfare of his people.
NDC Ashanti Region Communications Officer, Abass Nurudeen has described the President’s comments as ‘inappropriate and terrible.’
