Piesie Esther, a gospel performer from Ghana, recently apologized for calling President Nana Akufo-Addo the “God of NPP” during a performance.
She admitted her mistake and clarified the motivations behind her actions in a candid interview.
The incident happened a few days ago while the renowned gospel group, the Tagoe Sisters, was celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Piesie Esther made the contentious declaration while performing her popular song, “W’aye Me Yie,” in front of President Nana Akufo-Addo. This deed attracted considerable attention and sparked discussion among Ghanaians.
Piesie Esther recently discussed her actions and apologized for her words in an interview. She clarified that her goal was not to express political bias but rather to use the song’s lyrics to reach out to influential people she came in contact with while performing.

“I don’t allow criticisms to disturb me because since my ‘W’aye Me Yie’ song was released, whenever I go to a program and I’m ministering, I approach any prominent personality around and minister the song to him because I want the person to understand the lyrics of the song. That’s how I do it all the time,” she said during the interview.
She continued by stating that it was a regular occurrence for her to refer to well-known people by name during her performances.
She acknowledged that she frequently gave her songs a personal touch by including the names of the people she was ministering to in lyrics like “God of Enoch.” She wanted to make sure that they could relate to the music’s message.
Esther Piesie, however, admitted her mistake and expressed regret for calling President Akufo-Addo the “God of NPP.”
She acknowledged that she had erred and should not have used such language, particularly in a political setting.
