The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has placed Ghana in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

The aforementioned groups were drawn alongside the Black Stars on Thursday in the Cote d’Ivoire capital of Abidjan.

The 24 competing teams were divided into four pots of six teams each for the final AFCON draw. The hosts, Ivory Coast, were in Pot 1, along with the reigning champions, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.

Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were all present in Pot 2. In Pot 3, Cape Verde, Guinea, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Mauritania joined South Africa. Pot 4 included Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, Gambia, Tanzania, and Guinea-Bissau.

The hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, are in a difficult group in Group A after being paired with Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, and The Gambia were placed in Group C, while Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Angola were placed in Group D.

Group E is made up of Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, and Namibia. Group F is made up of Morocco, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania.

The 2023 AFCON will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, carrying on the competition’s 24-team format from the previous year.

Ghana will be hoping to improve on its disappointing group-stage exit from the most recent AFCON in Cameroon.

The Black Stars will be hoping to break their protracted trophy drought in Ivory Coast as they have not claimed a significant trophy in more than 40 years.
