Member of Parliament for Tema West constituency, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, has vehemently condemned the attack on UTV’s program United Showbiz last Saturday by some young men claimed to be members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, some allegedly hostile NPP thugs broke into the UTV studios, stopping the live broadcast of the weekly United Showbiz program.
Shortly after the show’s host, MzGee, began, the production was halted by their presence and agitated voices in the studio.
Following this, The NPP apologized for the interruption that took place during Saturday’s episode of the entertainment program to Despite Media’s management and the United Showbiz program.
Appearing on the Adekye Nsroma show, Carlos Ahenkorah asserted that NPP strongly believes in freedom of speech.
The MP for Tema West said that NPP government introduced the Right to Information Bill as part of its believe in the freedom of speech and therefore can’t be associated with invasion of the angry thugs at UTV studios.
Carlos Ahnekorah criticized the angry hooligans who stormed UTV to cause commotion on the United Showbiz program. According to him, they should have find a better way to address the issue rather than invading the studio to halt production.
Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah also urged the management of UTV to beef up their security protocols to avoid another future chaos.
He said; “I have been to this media house since 2009, I think UTV should improve in their access into the building. People who are allowed to come into the studio must be cleared, you must be given a certain right of entry before you can come in because here is a security zone.”
The lawmaker added that most of the countries which have experienced coups in recent times came through the media.
“Whiles we do not encourage our boys to do this, whiles we do not encourage anybody to do this, we must ensure some level of security arrangement be done avoid future occurrences,” he said.
