President Nana Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians to remember Black Star winger Christian Atsu in prayers after news of being among those trapped in the Turkey earthquake.
Nana Addo is hopeful that the 30-year-old Atsu will be saved by the rescue team currently underway in Turkey.
In a swift reaction, President Akufo-Addo took to social media to write, “Our hearts and prayers go out to the survivors, and we pray that our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, is found safe and sound”.
The President took this opportunity to extend his sincere condolences to the government and people of Turkey for those who lost their lives following Monday’s earthquake.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Governments and peoples of Turkey and Syria on the devastation and the tragic loss of lives occasioned by Monday’s earthquake. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
The former Chelsea and Newcastle player is reported to be trapped under the rubble of a devastating earthquake that struck Turkey at dawn on Monday, according to reports in Turkey.
According to multiple reports from Turkey, Atsu and Hatayspor sporting director Taner Savut can not be reached after the incident.
Reports from Turkey said hundreds of people were killed and others were seriously injured following the incident.
Meanwhile, Atsu scored for Hatayspor in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Kasimpasa in the Turkish league as a late substitute.
He signed for Hatayspor in September as a free agent and has made just three substitute appearances.
Also, Ghanaians and celebrities have joined the world to lift up prayers for Christian Atsu to be found safe.
We also pray and hope he is found.
