John Allister, a 22-year-old domestic helper, was given a 20-year prison term for killing his employer at Sokoban-Apaaso by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

John Allister was sentenced to 20 years in prison on each of the two counts of theft, but the terms of his sentence will run concurrently.

The offender admitted guilt to stealing 167,000 Ghana cedis from the proprietor of the hotel where he was employed as a receptionist.

Six days after starting work for Stella Osei, also known as Princess Afua Ahenkan, 35, John Allister made headlines last month for allegedly stabbing to death his employer.

After fleeing with bags of rice, cooking oil, and other random items, he sold his ma’s KIA Sportage car with the aid of accomplices.

With some of the money, he purchased a Toyota Vitz with the license plate GS 3107-23.

In contrast, Allister is charged with two counts of stealing in violation of Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960, Act 29/60, in the most recent case.

The houseboy is alleged to have fled with his employer’s phone and used the phone’s mobile app to withdraw money from her bank account.

The prosecution, led by ASP Stephen Ofori, asked the court to sentence the defendants after earlier claiming that some young people use similar strategies to the ones used by the defendants to approach their victims.

The accused was hired as a hotel receptionist at Bantama in 2022, according to the police prosecution, after he responded to a job posting.

However, after a month of working with the hotel’s owner, the complainant, the accused person unexpectedly stopped reporting to work.

Allister visited the complainant once more in July 2023 in order to look for work.

Due to their prior professional relationship, the complainant gave him permission to begin working right away.

The accused person helped the complainant with some settings on her Infinix Note 8 mobile phone on August 6, 2023.

However, the accused fled with the phone and proceeded to use a mobile app to withdraw GH167,660 from the complainant’s Absa Bank account.
