Kurt Okraku, who ran unopposed for re-election, has been elected to serve as president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for a second term.
On Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Tamale, at the GFA Elective Congress, the 52-year-old received 117 of the possible 120 votes.
The votes collected by Kurt Okraku represent an astounding 98.3% of all votes cast by Football Association members.
Kurt Okraku re-elected for a second term as GFA President.
Standing unopposed, the GFA Congress members voted:
YES – 117
NO- 2
Abstaining – 1It’s a secret ballot, so how come the so-called delegates who would have voted for George didn’t simply vote no? I’m confused. pic.twitter.com/az02b64wvG

As a result of George Afriyie‘s disqualification, Okraku ran unopposed for the GFA presidency.
After losing to the current GFA president four years ago, Afriyie, a former vice president of the Ghana FA, was seeking to unseat him.
Afriyie was, however, disqualified earlier in September after the Elections Committee claimed he had not provided enough GFA members to support his candidacy. His appeal was also rejected by the GFA Appeals Committee.
Afriyie then applied for an injunction to stop the presidential election and filed a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn his disqualification.
Additionally, the Ghanaian club King Faisal filed a separate injunction to halt the elections through its financier Alhaji Karim Grunsah.
However, the GFA decided to proceed with the elections, with the unofficial justification that it was necessary to do so in order to prevent having an FA without leadership by that date because the current administration’s term ends on October 25.
Kurt Okraku ran unopposed, but he still needed to win at least 50% plus one of the total votes to win re-election. By winning 98.3% of the votes cast, he exceeded that requirement.
