Bio: Henry Cuellar’s Biography

Henry Cuellar is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas’s 28th congressional district since 2005. He is also a member of the Democratic Party. His district extends from the Rio Grande to San Antonio’s suburbs.

Cuellar was born in Laredo, Texas, on September 19, 1955. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Georgetown University in 1978 and also his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982. After graduating from law school, Cuellar worked as a private attorney and served as a state representative in the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001.

Cuellar was aslo elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004. He has been re-elected six times, most recently in 2022. Cuellar is also a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee.
