Former first lady and wife of former president of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, Theresa Kufuor has passed away at age 88.

Ghanaians are still mourning the death of the former first lady’s since the news went viral some hours ago.

Asaase Radio reported that the former first lady passed away earlier yesterday, Sunday, October 1, 2023.

From 2001 to 2009, Theresa Kufuor held the position of First Lady of Ghana while her husband was the head of state.

“Her husband, former President John Agyekum Kufuor was at home, when his wife of over 55 years died. Mrs Kufuor has not been well in recent years,” the report said.

“Incidentally, President Nana Akufo-Addo had travelled to the mountains to pay a visit to the former President and her passing is said to have happened shortly before the President arrived.”

Following this, the current first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo has expressed her sorrow over the passing of Mrs. Theres Kufuor.

Rebecca Akufo-Addo took to her X (formerly Twitter) page to sympathize with former head of state, Kufuor and his family over the demise of Theresa.

She wrote, “I have learnt with great sadness the passing of Former First Lady of our dear country, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor. My deepest condolences to Former President H.E John Agyekum Kufuor, the family, and friends, in these difficult times.”

Before getting married in 1962, the couple started dating after meeting at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961.

Relatedly, according to reports, E.T Mensah, a former council member and member of parliament, has died at the age of 77.

He had been ailing for some time and, according to reports, passed away in South Africa.

Mr. Mensah was well-known in Ghanaian politics and held the positions of Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency for more than 20 years.
