Spencer Martin is a professional ice hockey goaltender who currently plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the third round (80th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Martin was born on June 8, 1995, in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly showed promise as a goaltender. He played minor hockey for the Oakville Rangers and the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. In 2011, he was selected by the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in the first round (18th overall) of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection.
Martin played two seasons with the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, helping the team to a bronze medal at the 2012 World U-17 Hockey Challenge and a bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World U18 Championships.
Martin played four seasons with the Colorado College Tigers, posting a career record of 76-44-14 with a 2.28 GAA and a .915 SV%. He was named to the All-NCAA West First Team and the All-NCAA Second Team in 2017.
Martin turned professional in 2017 and signed an entry-level contract with the Avalanche. He played two seasons with the Rampage, posting a 2.75 GAA and a .911 SV%.
In 2019, Martin was traded to the Vancouver Canucks. He played two seasons with the Canucks’ AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. He posted a 2.52 GAA and a .915 SV% in the 2022-23 season.
