The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) asserts that it respects Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen‘s decision to leave the party.

While acknowledging that the party accepts Mr. Kyerematen’s decision, Justin Frimpong Koduah, the NPP’s general secretary, expressed disappointment in the lack of prior notice to the party’s leadership before the public announcement.

Given that Mr. Kyerematen resigned via a press conference, Koduah called the decision “pre-meditated.”

“The disappointing part is the mode in which he decided to resign from the party, which was through a press conference without prior notice to the party. The Party wants to believe that by his decision to hold the press conference to resign without first informing the leadership of the Party suggests that he has made a premeditated and irrevocable decision to resign from the Party.

It needs emphasizing that, when the National Chairman [Stephen Ntim] visited him on behalf of the Party after the August 26 Special Electoral College, in an attempt to bring all the ten aspirants together, he did not portray any sign of resigning from the party, let alone going independent.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) acknowledges Mr. Kyerematen’s contributions to our party’s growth and development over the years. We respect his decision and extend our gratitude for the services rendered to the NPP and the nation,” the General Secretary of NPP underscored.

On Monday, September 25, the former trade and industry minister announced his resignation from the NPP and his intention to run as an independent in the 2024 elections.

For more than a decade, Mr. Kyerematen has been vocal about the alleged division within the NPP and the alleged hostile attacks on him and his supporters.

Relatedly, accusations that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is being run by a select few have been refuted by the NPP.

The party disputes the assertion made by former flagbearer candidate Alan Kyeremanten that some government appointees have taken control of the party.

The NPP’s general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, claimed there is no intimidation within the party during a press conference in Accra.
