The police have refuted earlier claims that they detained a BBC reporter and his cameraman during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest.

The police clarified the situation and denied reports that the BBC Reporter had been arrested in a statement.

The police declared that the journalist’s arrest had not actually occurred and that the report should be ignored.

“The attention of the Police has been drawn to an erroneous report by a section of the media that a BBC reporter and his cameraman have been arrested”

“The police will like to put on record that the report is false and should be disregarded”

The Police went on to say that following the protestors’ swoop, the identified journalists were released after being screened.

“The facts are that in dispersing the illegal demonstrators, a group of them were picked up and sent to the police station. During their screening process, two persons identified themselves as journalists and were immediately allowed to go”

Relatively, users of Twitter (X) have berated their favorite celebrities for not joining the “Occupy Julorbi House” protest.

While some well-known people have shown support for protesters and raised their voices in support of the problems in the world, others have chosen to remain silent, which has angered their supporters.

On September 21, the demonstration—organized by the advocacy group Democracy Hub—went ahead despite a Ghana Police order.

According to reports, police detained protesters and transported them by bus to the regional police headquarters in Accra.

Protesters have been sent to various police stations throughout the city after being divided into smaller groups. The media is unable to communicate with them.

Meanwhile, Bridget Otoo, a Ghanaian journalist, endured her fair share of roughhousing at the “Occupy Julorbi House” protest that was broken up by the police on September 21, 2023.

The well-known Metro TV Journalist was present when numerous protesters were detained and arrested at the police station.
