Braxton Berrios is an American football wide receiver and kick returner for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Miami, where he also was a two-time All-MAC selection and the 2018 MAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Biography
Braxton Berrios was born on October 6, 1995, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He attended Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, where he aslo played football and basketball. Braxton was a two-time all-state selection in football and helped lead his team to a state championship in 2012. He was also a two-time all-conference selection in basketball.
Berrios committed to also playing college football at the University of Miami. He also played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2014, recording 39 receptions for 446 yards and one touchdown. He was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
As a sophomore in 2015, Berrios recorded 51 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdowns. He was also named to the All-ACC Second Team.
As a junior in 2016, Berrios recorded 55 receptions for 661 yards as well as five touchdowns. He was also named to the All-ACC First Team.
As a senior in 2017, Berrios recorded 67 receptions for 872 yards and eight touchdowns. He was named to the All-ACC First Team and the All-American Third Team. He was also named the MAC Special Teams Player of the Year after returning 30 punts for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
Berrios went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he was signed by the New England Patriots as a free agent. He was released by the Patriots during the preseason and was signed by the New York Jets.
Berrios has played for the Jets ever since. He has become one of the team’s most valuable players, excelling as both a wide receiver and a returner.
In 2022, Berrios had a breakout season. Braxton caught 81 passes for 1,003 yards and also four touchdowns. He also returned 83 kickoffs for 2,961 yards. He was named to the All-Pro Second Team and the Pro Bowl.
