One person has died as a result of fights between land guards and wood vendors at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region, according to a report by Citi FM.
Numerous people were hurt during the violent clash between the two factions, which resulted in the blocking of roads and the burning of tires.
According to preliminary investigations, a land dispute between some wood sellers and landguards may have caused the unrest.
The Police have increased the area’s security measures, and the affected road has been reopened to regular traffic.
“Investigation so far indicates that the riot was in relation to a land litigation issue,” the Ghana Police Service said on Wednesday.
It added that the area’s security had since been boosted and the road had been made open to regular traffic flow.
“Investigation continues to get the perpetrators arrested to face justice.”
One person has reportedly passed away, and several others have been hurt.
According to Citi News’ Adwoa Tenkoramaa, the decision to evict the wood vendors despite the landowner having received their rent payments for the previous three years is what initially sparked the conflict.
When landguards believed to have been sent by the landowner descended on the area, shooting and looting stores while on the premises, one wood seller sustained gunshot wounds. The wood merchants responded by retaliating.
The police have confirmed that the situation is now calm.
