According to Ghana Police Service Director-General of Operations COP George Alex Mensah, he’s very happy with how the proceedings of the probe into the alleged plot to oust Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare is going.
He made this comments after he faced the 7-member Parliamentary Committee set up to investigate into the matter once again off-camera.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, COP Alex Mensah said he hasn’t presented his evidence to the the parliamentary special committee yet.
Even though, he was dodging the questions posed by the reporters due to the ongoing proceedings of the issue, he said he has been given a fair hearing and very soon he’ll present his solid evidence to back his allegations against IGP Dampare.
COP Alex Mensah revealed that he’ll appear before the 7-member parliamentary committee again on October 2, 2023. He also claimed that the truth will definitely come out soon.
In a leaked secretly recorded audio, Alex George Mensah and Superintendent George Asare were overheard discussing how to get rid of their boss, the IGP, in order to prevent the defeat of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.
In order to persuade President Nana Akufo-Addo to fire the IGP, they were looking to former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu.
It’s interesting that Bugri Naabu recorded the conversation and then leaked it; as a result, parliament is now looking into it.
COP Alex George Mensah accused Dampare of being the worst IGP Ghana has ever had and of mismanaging the Ghana Police Service, which has angered many officers, when he testified before the Atta Akyea-led committee appointed by parliament to investigate the footage’s content.
The IGP, meanwhile, denied all of the allegations, calling them fabrications with no basis intended to damage his reputation.
