In connection with an ongoing investigation into an audio recording that was leaked discussing the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Ghana Police Service has interdicted former Director General of the Technical Department, COP George Alex Mensah.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, COP Mensah received this interdiction.
A plot to overthrow IGP Dampare is allegedly being discussed by COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, according to a recorded conversation.
IGP Dampare was referred to by COP Mensah as the “worst ever” police chief he had encountered in his 31 years of service during a hearing before an ad hoc committee of Parliament.
During his second appearance before the parliamentary committee, he reiterated this opinion.
The ad hoc committee is looking into the audio because it has sparked concerns about possible misconduct among police officers.
This development emphasizes how crucial it is to uphold accountability and transparency within law enforcement organizations.
Relatively, COP George Alex Mensah, has claimed that he never got promoted under the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime.
COP Mensah made this revelation when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Thursday, August 31, probing into the alleged plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare.
According to COP Mensah, he only got promoted to the officer of the Police Commissioner under President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Previously, COP Mensah was serving as the Assistant Superintendent while the current IGP Dampare was serving as a Sergent in the police service.
COP George Alex Mensah has acknowledged that he supports the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power.
He has, however, refuted claims that he is an NPP registered member.
