Mitch McConnell was born in Sheffield, Alabama, on February 20, 1942. He is the son of Joseph Mitch McConnell Jr., a lawyer, and Julia Rogers McConnell, a homemaker. McConnell has one older brother, Roger, and also one younger sister, Claudia.
McConnell graduated from the University of Louisville in 1964 and Harvard Law School in 1967. He then worked as a lawyer in Kentucky before entering politics.

He has been re-elected six times and also is currently the longest-serving Republican senator in history. McConnell is the Senate Minority Leader.
McConnell is married to Elaine Chao, who is also the former Secretary of Transportation. They have two children, Elly and Porter.
