According to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Addai Nimo and Boakye Agyarko’s scheduled run-off election has been postponed.
The party claims that Boakye Agyarko’s withdrawal from the contest will prevent the planned runoff on September 2 from taking place.
“We take notice of your decision to withdraw from the contest and therefore the run-off election scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 2023, will no longer be held,” in a letter to Boakye Agyarko, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, the head of the NPP’s presidential elections committee, stated.
To break the tie between Mr. Agyarko and Mr. Addai-Nimoh and determine who would join the four candidates in the party’s presidential primary on November 4, a run-off was organized.
Boakye Agyarko withdrew from the run-off after charging the party with violating party bylaws.
“I refuse to be a part of such an act that seeks to unjustly truncate a previously agreed upon process and cannot be part of what is about to be done on Saturday, 2nd September 2023. I cannot, with a clear conscience make such an impermissible concession to such an errant decision. I, therefore, respectfully, serve this notice to refrain from such a contest. As always, I wish the party well,” on August 31, 2023, he stated in a letter to Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.
In order to reduce the number of candidates for flagbearer from ten to five, the NPP recently held a super delegates conference.
